The Minister of Water and Environment criticizes the negative role of United Nations in miss- use of

His Excellency Eng Nabil Abdullah Al-Wazir, Minister of Water and Environment, has stated the negative role of United Nations in miss-use of donor funds that provided to the Yemeni people. Mr. Al-Wazir, in a meeting, included the Deputy Minister, Mr. Honeen Al-Duraib , Undersecretary for Environment Sector, Mr. Mohammed Al-Wade’e and heads of authorities and institutions affiliated to the ministry, has pointed out that UN agencies in spending $ 205 million in 2019 for water and Sanitation sector is not true as declared by Mr. Abdulmohsen Tawoos, the Secretary General of Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs. He further stated that these UN agencies just defraudation since they accessed Yemen and no credibility in humanitarian activity. In same regard, Mr. Al-Wazir has affirmed that Ministry of Water and Environment has not received a single dollar, nor single Yemeni Riyal by United Nations. Mr. Al-Wazir called on all international donors who trust the United Nations to reconsider what is going on corruption and misuse of Yemen's funding within these agencies, which collect funds under the name of Yemeni children, and to review the background of international staff of United Nations who were expelled from other countries on background of corruption to be employed in Yemen with high salaries. He stated that United Nations has exploited the suffering of Yemeni people to get money, stating that emergence of a scandal, such as the scandal of Iraq (oil for food) is not ruled out, as well as corruption of international staff misbehavior and disrespect of Yemeni social traditions. “As responsible person infront God and Yemeni people, I would emphasize that we will not allow, in any way, the violation of Yemen sovereignty, nor allow any foreign party to seize state institutions or take our institutions role, or deal in a radical racism with state staff '' the minister said. He is further calling the related authorities and Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation to continue in combating against the United Nations corruption, and not to use war and aggression as an excuse to violate the sovereignty of Yemen in any way. The minister, in his speech, pointed out that the ministry, in all sectors, has not been able to implement projects during this year 2019, except the projects which were run and began implementation last year, in addition to the suspension of water services and sewage services due lack of commitment of United Nations to deliver the diesel quantities as agreed since 2018. The Minister, as well, has showed proofs of hygiene kits that do not conform to the standard specifications, which are provided to families under name of humanitarian aid to children of Yemen, despite the ministry has reported to the UN agencies, but no action was taken to correct this corruption, nor replied to us. He affirmed that Yemeni people has the right to manage their funds from international granting, stating that United Nations is not interested to end the war on Yemen as it aims to continue exploit the suffering of Yemeni people and make millions of dollars run its irrational operational expenses. The United Nations should know that they are guests in Yemen, and they are not a substitute for sovereign state institutions.
